Digital Demos: Gamification and the basics of Twine

Event details

About the event

Twine is an open-source tool for telling interactive, non-linear stories. Essentially it means you can create Choose Your Own Adventure–style stories in HTML. The powerful part of Twine is you can expand your stories with conditional logic, variables and everything else that HTML allows.

It was created in 2009 by Chris Kilmas. This software does not come with any dedicated support, only a fantastic online community. People freely share their code and troubleshoot each other’s issues.

Twine is primarily text-based but since it’s HTML, you can add images and embed videos like any other webpage. It can be a fantastic tool to create engaging content. You’re only limited by your imagination... and coding skills.

The software helps simply for the code, making it easier for a novice coder. The Digital Demo will briefly discuss some gamification concepts, then dive into Twine covering some of the features to expand an interactive, non-linear story beyond its text-based functionality.

You’ll learn about:

  • ways to gamify

  • using the interface

  • creating stories

  • variables

  • conditions

  • embedding and pictures

  • formatting and style

  • analytics.
