Event

Demonstrate your research impact

Event details

About the event

Citation-based metrics are widely used to measure and demonstrate the impact of traditional research outputs such as journal articles, books, book chapters and conference proceedings. In addition to these, we now have metrics for policy citations, collaboration, and news mentions – where do these come from and how can they be used? This session will work through a checklist to help you find a range of research metrics at the author and publication level that will be helpful for demonstrating your research impact in funding applications, academic promotions, or for planning and benchmarking.

Who should attend

This workshop is targeted at researchers, Higher Degree by Research students, and professional research support staff.

Objectives

  • Raise awareness of responsible use of research metrics, with examples of what to avoid
  • Learn how to find metrics about an author like the h-index, publication and citation counts, Field Weighted Citation Impact, and collaboration metrics
  • Discuss options for demonstrating the impact of a publication by looking at citing articles, citation percentiles, altmetrics, and policy impacts
  • Discuss options for benchmarking, and discipline differences in research metrics

Resources used

Scopus, SciVal, Web of Science, InCites, Google Scholar, and more.
