About the event

How do we make sense of the implications of current geopolitical, financial and technological volatility? What impact will all of this have on the relationship between libraries and publishers, and libraries and their users? Bringing librarians, information professionals, policy makers, and thought leaders together, the ‘Beyond Certainty Symposium’ addresses these questions.

The reduction in access to overseas based research and datasets, funding cuts to research and libraries across the globe, all have serious implications for academic publishers. Adding to the disruption is the rapid adoption of AI into multiple aspects of the academic endeavour, including how people interact with published material. The deployment of AI in the production of information has simply exacerbated the already significant problems related to trust and integrity in scholarly communication. We need to lead with intention.

This Symposium will bring together thought leaders across different areas to share ideas and provocations. The Symposium is expected to attract academics, industry professionals, library and information professionals and policy makers involved in innovation and discovery. It is the start of the conversation.

We will use a mixture of talks, panels and breakout discussions to explore the issues and generate ideas. The event will produce a report that will be a starting point for action across different areas.

Join us online on Wednesday, 8 October 2025, 9.30am–3.45pm AEST.
