Deakin GenAI Hub – Workshop: Research Supervision and Generative AI

Event details

  • Deakin students and staff

About the event

Generative Artificial Intelligence is not going away anytime soon, but, nor are we humans. Equally, the PhD and people being supervised looks like it’s here to stay too. There are however a range of issues about which supervisors, and graduate research students, need to think critically and carefully. This workshop will take a critical approach to Generative AI and Deakin’s six principles which guide research for AI-literate graduate researchers and supervisors.

From ‘reviewing literature’ to ‘research design’, ‘analysis’ to ‘editing’, graduate researchers and their supervisors constantly navigate their collective learning journey and inevitably look for ways to do their research efficiently. They also have a responsibility to do their research responsibly in line with the Australian CODE for the Responsible Conduct of Research. The question about whether research is responsible or ethical is however only part of the matter.

This workshop will provide a critical, robust, and no doubt, diverse discussion space in which supervisors and graduate researchers can begin to exercise their own professional judgement about skills, abilities, learning, supervision, and generative AI.
