About the event

Join us for an online panel of Deakin Open Journal Systems (OJS) journal editors to learn more about the "diamond" model for scholarly publishing. In this session, a panel of editors of "diamond" - free-to-read and free-to-publish - journals will gather to share ideas and experiences about how their community-controlled journals emphasise community over commercialisation. All welcome!

Speakers

A/Prof. Antonia Pont

Associate Professor Writing and Literature, Faculty of Arts & Education, Deakin University

Dr Antonia Pont is Associate Professor at Deakin University in the Writing, Literature & Culture group of the School of Communication and Creative Arts. She has widely published fiction, poetry, and long essays, along with philosophical and critical works investigating practising, movement, creativity, time and habit, via 20th century philosophy and practice-led methodologies. She has guest edited Special Issues for TEXT journal, and the Journal of Dance and Somatic Practices. She works alongside other researchers in ADI, in Reading Writing Futures and in Public Exchange Bureau. She is a founding co-editor, with Dr Hayley Elliott-Ryan of c i n d e r journal, hosted on the OSJ platform with Deakin University.

EmPr. David Marshall

Emeritus Professor, Faculty of Arts & Education, Deakin University

Professor Marshall is a Research Professor and holds a Personal Chair in New Media, Communication and Cultural Studies at Deakin University. Professor Marshall has published widely in two areas: the public personality system and new media culture. His recent work is connecting these two areas and developing "persona studies", where the presentation of public versions of the self has become generalised through online culture.

A/Prof. Rod Neilsen

Associate Professor in Education (TESOL), Faculty of Arts & Education, Deakin University

Professor Neilsen is currently senior lecturer and discipline leader in the TESOL/Languages team at Deakin University, Melbourne. He is currently researching in the areas of bilingual reading development, multilingual approaches to language learning, and pre-service teacher mobility, and is the Chief Editor of the Australian journal, TESOL in Context.

Prof. Helen Partridge

Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching and Learning, Deakin Learning Futures, Deakin University

Professor Helen Partridge is the Pro Vice-Chancellor Teaching and Learning at Deakin University. Professor Partridge's research explores the interplay between information, technology and learning. She investigates the ways people experience information and/or technology to learn as students, as professionals, and as people in their everyday life.

Ms. Cara Schultz

Publications Editor, Centre for Humanitarian Leadership

Ms. Schultz is an award-winning writer and editor with two decades of experience in the for-purpose sector. The cornerstones of her work are environmental justice and human rights, and she has worked at a variety of publications across the Australia and the world, including the Centre for Humanitarian Leadership’s flagship journal, the Humanitarian Leader.
