International Open Access Week 2023
Event details
About the event
Join Deakin Library for Open Access Week as we discuss, share, learn, and workshop the Open Access Landscape. Open Access Week is an international campaign with the theme of this year’s event being Community over Commercialisation.
Over the week of October 23, the Library will host a series of events to recognize Open Access Week 2023. The program, which will be spread across three campuses, includes a keynote address by University Librarian, Hero Macdonald, an online panel of Deakin journal editors, an interactive workshop for members of the Deakin research community to co-create solutions to the wicked problem of the current state of Open Access publishing, and a hybrid panel about Open Education. Please see below for details on each event – Registration links coming soon!
Open Access Week is situated within the broader landscape of scholarly communication, which is increasingly dynamic and complex. Within Deakin, support for Open Access publishing is increasing alongside growing concerns about the commercialisation of scholarly communication. Open Access Week invites members of the Deakin research community to bravely engage in candid conversations about which approaches to open scholarship prioritize the best interests of the public and the academic community—and which do not.
